Dexy’s Midnight Runners & The Emerald ExpressDexys Midnight Runners & The Emerald Express was the official billing for the legendary British band during their most commercially successful era in 1982. Seeking a richer, rootsy sound, frontman Kevin Rowland augmented his soul group with a classical violin section. Dubbed “The Emerald Express”, the trio consisted of Helen O’Hara, Steve Brennan, and Roger MacDuff. Dressed in iconic dungarees, they blended Northern Soul with Celtic folk. The collaboration birthed the multi-platinum album Too-Rye-Ay and the monumental transatlantic number-one single “Come On Eileen”, cementing their place as definitive icons of 1980s pop culture.
