Martha & The MuffinsMartha and the Muffins are an acclaimed Canadian new wave and art-pop band formed in Toronto in 1977. Emerging from the local art school scene, the group uniquely featured a saxophone and two keyboardists named Martha—frontwoman Martha Johnson and Martha Ladly. They achieved massive global stardom in 1980 with their definitive international hit single, “Echo Beach”, from their debut album Metro Music. Though “Echo Beach” remained their primary global hit, they scored long-term Canadian success with experimental albums like This Is the Ice Age, frequently collaborating with producer Daniel Lanois before morphing into the duo M+M.
