Story Behind The Song
Few records capture the exhilarating rush of late-Eighties club culture quite like “Ride On Time”. Released in 1989 by Italian house trio Black Box, the track was created by Dan Hartman, Daniele Davoli, Mirko Limoni and Valerio Semplici, working as the production team Groove Groove Melody. It fused pounding house rhythms with an instantly recognisable piano hook and a soaring female vocal, creating a sound that felt both soulful and futuristic.
The song grew from Davoli’s experiments with an Akai S900 sampler while working as a DJ in Bologna. He discovered an a cappella recording of Loleatta Holloway’s 1980 disco classic “Love Sensation” and used her powerful vocal as the foundation for a new dance track. Limoni and Semplici added the piano, rhythm and electronic textures, while a sample from the Love Unlimited Orchestra’s “Love’s Theme” also became part of the finished production.
The original recording became the subject of a dispute over the use of Holloway’s vocal, resulting in a newly recorded vocal version. Heather Small was brought in to recreate the vocal, although French model Katrin Quinol remained the visual face of Black Box, miming in the promotional video and television appearances.
With its relentless piano riff, huge vocal hooks and unmistakable club energy, “Ride On Time” became one of the defining dance records of the late Eighties.
The song peaked at No. 01 on the UK charts on 9th September 1989.

SONG LYRICS
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up
And time won’t take my love away
Wa-ho, wa-ho, wa-wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-wa-ho
You’re such a, you’re such a, you’re such a
You’re such a hot temptation, you just walk right in, walk-walk-walk right in and
Wa-ho, wa-ho, wa-wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-wa-ho
Wa-Wa-ho, wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-ho
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Thank-thank-thank you, baby)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Just don’t move)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Thank-thank-thank you, baby)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Walk right in and)
‘Cause you’re right on time, ’cause you’re right on time, right on time
‘Cause you’re right on time, ’cause you’re right on time, right on time
Let me tell you, let me tell you what you do, what you do, what you do to me
You’re such a hot temptation, you just walk right in, walk-walk-walk right in and
Wa-ho, wa-ho, wa-wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-wa-ho
Wa-wa-ho, wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-wa-ho, wa-wa-wa-ho
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Thank-thank-thank you, baby)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Just don’t move)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Thank-thank-thank you, baby)
Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up (Walk right in and)
Away
‘Cause you’re right on time, ’cause you’re right on time, right on time
‘Cause you’re right on time, ’cause you’re right on time, right on time
‘Cause you’re right on time, right on time, ’cause you’re right on time, right on time
‘Cause you’re right on time, right-right-right on time, ‘cau-’cause you’re right on time, right-right-right on time
Away
And time won’t take my love away
