KingKing were a highly successful British new wave and pop band formed in Coventry in 1984. Fronted by the charismatic, spray-painted-doc-martens-wearing vocalist Paul King, the group smoothly blended synth-pop with rock, funk, and soul. They achieved instant, massive commercial success with their 1984 debut album, Steps in Time. The record spawned their definitive, chart-topping international anthem “Love & Pride”, which soared to number two on the UK Singles Chart in early 1985. Following further hits like “Alone Without You” and their sophomore album, Bitter Sweet, the band dissolved in 1986 as Paul transitioned into a VJ career.
